Say what the model must carry. Then check it.

Information requirements, written the way buildingSMART’s IDS 1.0 writes them: which elements a requirement applies to, and what each must have, a property, a value, a material, a classification, a place in the building. Edit them here, export them as an IDS file for the whole team, and check any IFC against them. Every element that falls short is named, with the reason.

On this device Your model and your requirements are read on this device and never uploaded.

Requirements check

Sample model

The sample requirements are checked against whichever sample model is chosen: four procedural models written from the buildings on the first screen, each with the same nine problems planted. Or open your own IFC.

        How it reads a requirement

One standard, read the same way by every tool.

An IDS is a short XML file that says, for each specification, which elements it applies to and what they must carry. Written once, the same file is read by the design tools, the checking tools and the client. Ours follows IDS 1.0 to the letter: what this page exports validates against buildingSMART’s schema, and our checker agrees with buildingSMART’s own verdict on every one of their published test cases.

        Applies to
An entity (IfcWall, IfcDoor…), optionally narrowed by a predefined type, an attribute, a property, a material, a classification or what it is part of.
        Must have
Each requirement is required, optional or prohibited, and its value can be exact, one of a list, a pattern or a range. Numbers are compared in SI units, with the tolerance IDS sets for real numbers.
        The result
A specification is met when every element it covers meets every requirement, and the count of covered elements is what it asks for. Failures carry their reason and export as BCF topics that select the element by GlobalId.

The sample requirements are ours, written for the sample model to show the method. They are not a client’s or an authority’s requirements.

We write the requirements with you, then hold the model to them.

Send us your employer’s information requirements. We return them as an IDS, and a model that meets it.
